Downpipes, fascia and flashings

The details that keep a roof watertight: flashings around chimneys and walls, fascia boards and downpipes, fixed by a roofer who does them properly.

Get a roofer for this

Free for homeowners. One roofer, chosen for your area and this job.

Most leaks are not in the middle of a roof. They are at the edges and penetrations: a flashing that has rusted or pulled away, a fascia board that has rotted behind the spouting, a downpipe that is disconnected or undersized.

Describe what you have noticed. One roofer in your area who does this detail work gets your enquiry and calls you to arrange a look.

Signs you need this

  • Rust or gaps at a chimney, parapet, skylight or where the roof meets a wall
  • Rotten, split or sagging fascia boards
  • Downpipes that are disconnected, leaking at the joins or overflowing
  • Staining on the cladding under the roof edge

What the roofer will do

  1. Inspect the flashings, fascia and downpipes together, because they fail together
  2. Replace or reseal flashings, replace fascia sections, reconnect or resize downpipes
  3. Match colours and profiles to the existing roof

How it works with us

  1. You tell us the job. Where the house is, what you have noticed, how urgent it is, and a photo if it is safe to take one.
  2. A person checks it. Someone on our team reads every enquiry. We are not a form that forwards itself.
  3. One roofer gets it. A roofer who works in your area and does this kind of job. Only one, so you are not fielding ten calls.
  4. They contact you. Usually within a working day, to talk through the job and arrange a look.

Questions people ask

What is a flashing?

A strip of metal or membrane that seals the junction between the roof and something else: a wall, a chimney, a vent, a skylight or the roof edge. When a flashing fails, water gets in at that junction.

Is replacing fascia a roofer's job?

Yes, when it sits behind spouting it is usually done together with the spouting, by a roofer.

Can downpipes go into a different drain?

Sometimes, but stormwater connections have rules. The roofer will advise and will tell you if a drainlayer is needed.
